Green River Revival Brings CCR to Life
On a cold February evening, Green River Revival, a leading Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) tribute band, warmed up an enthusiastic Ottawa audience at the Shenkman Arts Centre.
CCR, purveyors of foot-stomping swamp rock, scored multiple hit records from 1968 to 1972. Classic rock staples like Proud Mary, Fortunate Son, Lookin’ Out My Back Door, and Who’ll Stop the Rain, continue to find new audiences.
John Fogerty, CCR’s songwriter and lead singer, is renowned for crafting lyrics that tell stories. Green River Revival enhanced the drama with costume changes, reflecting not only the songs but the era. For Run Thru the Jungle, a song closely associated with the Vietnam war, band members donned military fatigues.
Fogerty established a successful post-Creedence career which Green River Revival acknowledges, with songs like Old Man Down the Road and Rockin’ All Over the World.
Green River Revival delivered a solid, engaging performance, with spot-on musicianship. The band has presented thousands of shows for decades across Canada, the United States and Mexico, and their experience and professionalism was evident on every tune.
It was an evening to remember—great songs delivered by a high energy band with lots of sing-along participation. It doesn’t get better.
