Since 2021, Los Desperados emerged on to the tribute scene presenting their “BEST OF” by the Eagles. Since then “Los Desperados” under the leadership of Cory Maxam has introduced fans and friends to a superior presentation and interpretation of that famous original band. A powerful, authentic six piece band, Los Desperados is a tight cohesive performing group that excels in bringing their BEST to every show. Q10 caught up with Cory Maxam. Have a read!
1. IF YOU WERE TO DESCRIBE THE PERFECT OR IDEAL VENUE FOR YOUR SHOW- WHAT OR WHERE WOULD IT IS?
Our band was formed with the purposes of playing Festivals/ theatre style and auditorium type setups! We are super thrilled and a bit surprised at how diversified in age our audiences have been. That is the beauty of The Eagles library. It really has stood the test of time and appeals to people of all ages!
2. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE EVER ASKED TO PERFORM AN “EAGLES” SONG THAT WASN’T ON YOUR SHOW LIST?
Our band has taken a corporate approach to our live show! We take the music very seriously. Our goal is to be as authentic as humanly possible and to appeal to every Eagles fan! With that in mind we carefully chose our song list to make sure to cover all the major hits and continue to add songs to our set list! So even though we don’t take requests, we like to think we are able to deliver on the songs that the true fans want to hear.
3. “THE EAGLES” HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR OVER 40 YEARS PERFORMING, IS THERE A PARTICULAR “EAGLE” OR A SONG THAT INSPIRED YOU LAUNCH YOUR TRIBUTE SHOW
My idol has been Glenn Frey ever since I was old enough to understand just how important and inspiring the music of the Eagles is for me personally. I can't really pinpoint one specific Eagles song that particularly inspired me over another. I like to think that we are able to portray the right emotion through the music no matter what the song.
4. WHAT DO YOU FEEL WILL SET YOU APART OR MAKE YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER “EAGLE” TRIBUTE SHOWS?
We truly strive for perfection. We have come to learn that in order to do justice to the songs and the Eagles that we had better have our shit together. Also the diverse background of each of our members cannot be overlooked and our band of misfits has somehow found a chemistry that really works for us. Each member brings a unique quality and interpretation of the music. The music and quality of our vocals are a real labour of love I must admit. Endless rehearsal hours especially vocally will be what sets us apart. We have found the Eagles harmonious blend of vocals that it literally takes years to perfect.
5. EVEN THOUGH YOU’RE RELATIVELY NEW ON THE TRIBUTE CIRCUIT, HAS THERE BEEN A FAVOURITE SHOW OR MEMORY WORTH SHARING?
We play our hearts out anytime we perform, so we like to think that every show is memorable in its own unique way.
6. AS A MUSICIAN, YOU GET YOUR INFLUENCES AND TASTES FROM MANY DIFFERENT STYLES AND GENRES OF MUSIC, IF YOUCOULD PLAY WITH ANY MUSICIAN (LIVING OR PAST); WHO WOULD IT BE?
WOW! That’s a great question. I can’t speak for anyone else in the band but for me, it would be any and all of the past or present members of the Eagles. Also I have always had a warm spot in my heart for zeppelin and guns n roses!
7. WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE DESPERADOS FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?
Ultimately, the goal is to be a top tier touring Eagles tribute for years to come, mainly North America. I’ve also always had a secret desire to play cruise ships! But that's a couple years away. For now we are just concentrating on Ontario and Quebec with perhaps some of the Maritime provinces as we continue to gain momentum on the tribute circuit!
8. WHAT DO YOU WANT AUDIENCE MEMBERS AND LISTENERS TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR LIVE SHOW?
We just really are obsessed with delivering the full authentic Eagles Experience. Our goal is to have people leaving and feeling like what they experienced at a Los Desperados concert was worth the price of admission!
9. WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF BEING IN A BAND?
Managing personalities, and keeping an open mind. As musicians and performers, we tend to have strong personalities and opinions. Sometimes we forget to slow down and take it all in. Sometimes we tend to take ourselves too seriously. It's important to just breathe and realize how lucky we are, how much fun it really is.
10. HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR BAND NAME?
I think I will plead the 5th on that one. A little mystique is always good. When Don Henley was asked what the meaning behind Hotel California was, he simply replied it's the story of a journey from innocence to experience. So that’s my answer.
